Press for Peace co-petitions performance of Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority in Supreme Court of Pakistan

Press for Peace co-petitioned the performance of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) in the Supreme Court on 24 February 2012. The constitutional petition was filed together by Press for Peace Director AJK Raja Wasim, Former Member National Assembly Marvi Memon, and Mehtab Ashraf Khan under article 184 (3) of the constitution. Chairman ERRA and NAB have been made respondents in petition. The co-petitioners have stated in the petition that ERRA has completely failed in work of rehabilitation and reconstruction in Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, adding that mega corruption has been committed and Chairman NAB has not taken any action against alleged corruption. Petitioners have stated that mostly projects in affected areas have not been completed yet, adding that roads are incomplete and 60 thousand children are still homeless. Petitions says that the amount of rehabilitation work has been shifted in Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), adding that Chairman ERRA admitted that 4071 projects have been completed out of 7745 projects, while 1300 projects had not been started yet. The petitioners have requested the court to direct Chairman ERRA to provide correct information regarding the funds obtained for the development projects and information regarding the allocations of the said funds, adding that court may direct the ERRA to provide information about the development projects which have been completed in the earthquake affected areas. Petitioners have requested the court to direct Chairman NAB to audit, inquire and investigate all claims, allocations of funds, status of projects, completed or not completed. It is worth mentioning here that ERRA was established by the government after deadliest earthquake on October 08, 2008.
