PFP demands judicial enquiry of attack on Christian village in Punjab (Pakistan)

Press for Peace (PFP) has condemned the barbaric incident of attack on Christians homes in village Koriyan ,District Toba Tek Singh by armed mob of Muslim fanatics , as result of which, 20 houses were set on fire while dozens of innocent people including women and children were reportedly injured. As per reports, in village 262 GB, near Koriyan District Toba Tek Singh, a Muslim accused one Christian boy in home of marriage ceremony that he has burnt down the pages of Holy Koran. The elders of Christians and Muslims in village met to defuse tension on clarification of Christian youth that he has not burnt pages of Koran, however, later a large number of people, following the announcements of village mosque’s clergy, attacked the homes of Christian population and burnt the houses, including some cattle’s. The angry mob also blocked the Faisalabad Jang Road for many hours that affected the access of fire brigade personnel or police.

Executive Director (PFP), Zafar Iqbal has asked the authorities to constitute a judicial commission to investigate the incident independently. He also urged the government to compensate the victims who lost their valuables in this incident. “Majority of minorities could not even think of uttering blasphemous
remarks but blasphemy law is being unnecessary exploited to victimise the innocent Christians,” he added. Media Director (PFP) Sarfraz Ali said that the awful event was the second assault within one month. “This incident an act of sheer terrorism and culprits involved in it should be trialled under anti terrorist act”, he maintained He revealed that earlier Christians were brutally attacked at Bahmniwala area of District Kasur in Pakistani Punjab. Ali also demanded the government to arrest the culprits involved in these heinous crimes and award them exemplary punishment.
