NA Standing Committee pledges to fight for people’s rights

Muzaffarabad, Jammu and Kashmir: National Assembly Standing Committee for Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan has assured that it would raise the voice of people of Kashmir at every forum and it would present recommendation for the resolution of problems of  of affected areas.

These views were expressed by members of Standing Committee for Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan in a meeting organized by Press for Peace (PFP) to update the delegation about the public concerns  related to  rehabilitation of quake hit areas.

Civil Society represtantives briefed the members about the latest situation of rehabilitation and reconstruction in affected areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chairman Shazada Moiuddin, Miss Marvi Memon, Afrasiyab Khatak, Mehmood Hayyat Khan and Sardar Muhammad Omer were included in the delegation of Standing Committee who visited Azad Kashmir to know the details of latest situation of rebuilding process.

Members of Committee unianously criticized the ERRA and Governments for delaying of reconstruction work in affected areas of Kashmir which were destroyed during the devastating tremor of October 08, 2005.

They questioned that why the public representatives not raise the voice against inefficiency and failures of government if ERRA authorities failed to perform their duties.

Miss Marvi, Member National Assembly said that the committee has been informed by the Government officials  that more than 90 per cent work related to rehabilitation has been completed but now we learnt from people that they are still suffering because of government failures.

She vowed that the miseries of people would be highlighted on every forum and Committee would put recommendations at National Assembly as well.

“We would fight for people’s rights at every forum and the officials of the ERRA would be made accountable for the implementation of reconstruction plan”, she said.

Chairman Shazada Moyuddin maintained that Kashmir Committee would investigate the reasons of delaying of development projects in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, local social workers and campaigners briefed the members of Kashmir Committee about the people’s problems in housing, education, communication and other sectors.

Pattern PFP Mrs. Tanveer Lateef, Faisal Majeed Secretary Bar Association, Atique Kiani, President Al-Mustafa Welfare Socity, Tufail Siaf Karna Awami Itthad, Raja Afaq President Poverty Alleviation Fund, Raja Wasim, Ammiruddin Mugal, Rashid Mughal, Aurangzeb Saifullah, Malik Naseer Awan, Yasir Mughal, Usman Khan, Asif Mustafia and others members and represtatives of trade unions and youth groups highlighted the local issues.

Ammirddin Mughal, Chairman Board of Governors PFP said that the ERRA has failed to provide job to any single Kashmiri citizen in its headquarters and it is running all of its policies and operations without the consultation and involvement of local government.

Raja Faisal Majeed demanded that the powers of appointement of judges should be transferred from Chairman Kashmir Council (PM Pakistan) to government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
