Our work is targeted but not limited to the communities in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur and Poonch Divisions of Jammu & Kashmir. In Muzaffarabad Division our focus areas are Muzaffarabad City, Neelum Valley and District Bagh. In Poonch Division, Rawalakot, Hajira & Abbaspur are focused by our volunteers and activists. We are also working in districts Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber.Together with other civil society organizations around the globe, Press for Peace (PFP) concentrates on fundamental issues of today and identifies ways and means to address these issues. Initially, PFP started working at local level, where lot of emphasis was on highlighting sufferings and hardships of downtrodden and exploited communities. However, with the passage to time PFP strengthened its linkages with other regional and international like minded people and organizations in order to contribute globally. Being actively involved in the humanitarian work and relief activities just a few hours after the earthquake, Press for Peace (PFP) emerged as a motivating source for a huge number of volunteers in Jammu and Kashmir. Now, it has become a well-established and well-reputed organization.

Ejaz Mir, a young entrepreneur, lives in a small town at the border of Kashmir, which is divided into an Indian and a Pakistani side. Whenever the tensions between both nuclear powers escalate over their borders, shadows of war and clouds of fear hover over this town.

Since childhood, this young trader has been witnessing shells falling, wounded civilians and the destruction of hospitals, schools and business structures in his surrounding area. However, when in 2002 India and Pakistan decided to establish travel and business links between the two divided parts of Kashmir, after 60 years of lack of communication, he finally regained hopes of rebuilding his stagnant business. Development at the cost of DestructionPakistan has initiated a mega power project in its administrative part of Kashmir without fulfilling mandatory environmental obligations required for development projects. Contemporary international environmental laws and standards bound all governments and their publics to conduct Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and ecological surveys (both phase1&2) in every developmental project to achieve goals of sustainable development, nonetheless, Pakistan’s official Water And Power Development Authority (WAPDA), has started the construction of US $2.16 billion- Neelum-Jhelum Hydro Project in a remote and scenic Neelum Valley -100 km to the north-west of Islamabad, through a consortium of Chinese firms in order to generate 969 Megawatt electricity, without fulfilling the set global criteria. Ecotourism has become an important economic activity in natural areas around the world. Tourism is becoming increasingly popular, as both domestic and international visitors flock to the most attractive places. Tourism is one of the largest and steadily growing economic sectors world - wide, as well as being a sector in which developing nations have a considerable stake. For this reason alone, tourism is a re levant factor in terms of development policies. Especial ly in nature conservation, the “ecotourism” option is increasingly advocated in order to contribute to conservation project funding and offer economic incentives for the preservation of ecosystems and their biodiversity.
